Having trouble with BlackBox? Here are some common solutions and ways to get help.

BlackBox isn’t recording any audio

Make sure you’ve granted microphone access. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and ensure BlackBox is enabled. You can also check the input device in BlackBox’s Settings.

I see “samples dropped” warnings

This can happen if your system is under heavy load. Try closing other applications or reducing the number of recording channels. A small number of drops at the very start of recording is normal and does not affect audio quality.

My recordings are silent

Check that the correct input device is selected in Settings. You can use the Level Meter window to verify that audio is reaching BlackBox. Also ensure the silence gate isn’t set too aggressively — try lowering the threshold or disabling it temporarily.

Where are my recordings saved?

By default, recordings are saved to ~/Music/BlackBox Recordings/. You can change this in Settings > Output, or click “Show Recordings in Finder” from the menu bar.

What audio format does BlackBox use?

BlackBox records uncompressed WAV files at your device’s native sample rate. You can choose 16-bit, 24-bit (default), or 32-bit depth in Settings.
