Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 4, 2026
Overview
BlackBox Audio Recorder (“BlackBox”) is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your audio recordings stay entirely on your Mac. We do not collect, transmit, or have access to any of your data.
Data Collection
We do not collect any personal data. BlackBox does not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporters, or any network communication. The app operates entirely offline.
Microphone Access
BlackBox requests access to your microphone solely to record audio to local WAV files on your Mac. Audio data is written directly to your chosen output directory and is never transmitted over the network.
Local Storage
BlackBox stores the following data locally on your Mac:
- Audio recordings – WAV files saved to your chosen output directory
- Preferences – Your settings (input device, output mode, bit depth, etc.) stored in macOS UserDefaults
- Security-scoped bookmarks – A reference to your chosen output directory so the app can access it across launches
No data is stored on external servers or in the cloud. You have full control over your recordings and can delete them at any time using Finder. To clear preferences, use Reset All Settings within the app.
Revoking Access
You can revoke microphone access at any time by opening System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and disabling BlackBox Audio Recorder. Without microphone access, the app will be unable to record audio but will otherwise continue to function normally.
Third-Party Services
BlackBox does not use any third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks that collect user data.
